Severe Weather

From the NFHS Lightning Guidelines

  • Monitor local weather conditions before and during events
  • When thunder is heard, or lightning is seen, the thunderstorm is close enough to strike your location with lightning
  • Suspend play and take shelter immediately
  • Thirty Minute Rule - Once play has been suspended, wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunder is heard or flash of lightning is witnessed prior to resuming play
  • Any subsequent thunder or lightning after the beginning of the 30 minute count, reset the clock and another 30 minute count should begin

ADHERE TO THIS STRICTLY - THERE IS NOT ROOM FOR COMPROMISE!!!

Terminated Games

There is not a mechanism involving CIAC to report game termination or suspension. If you terminate a game send an email to the SCSOA President and the SCSOA Assignor. They will inform the School Athletic Directors.

The following information is neccesary:

  • Game Venue, Teams, Time of Termination and Score at that time
  • DO NOT OFFER ANY INFORMATION REGARDING THE FINAL OUTCOME OF THE GAME
  • CIAC will administer the Rules of competition (not the Refeeres)

It is with great sadness and regret that the SCSOA learned that our longtime member Steve Benko, of New Canaan, passed away on Friday February 11, 2022. His life was taken away too early. We lost a good man.

A memorial service was held on Feb. 24 at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan.
